Men’s Track and Field: Scholarship & Team Data by Division

In NCAA Division I, there are 269 teams with a total of 11,156 athletes, averaging 41.5 players per team. The current scholarship limit is 12.6, which will increase to 45 in 2025–26, along with a roster cap of 45. Scholarships are awarded on an equivalency basis.

In NCAA Division II, there are 197 teams with 7,896 athletes, averaging 40.1 players per team. The scholarship limit is 12.6 and will remain the same in 2025–26, with no roster cap. Scholarships also follow the equivalency model.

In NCAA Division III, there are 312 teams with 11,457 athletes, averaging 36.6 players per team. This division does not offer athletic scholarships, and there are no roster limits.

In the NAIA, there are 161 teams with an average roster size of 26 athletes. The scholarship limit is 12 and will stay at 12 in 2025–26. Scholarships are awarded on an equivalency basis.

In the NJCAA, there are 63 teams with an average roster size of 17 athletes. The current scholarship limit is 20, which remains the same for 2025–26. This division also uses the equivalency model.


Women’s Track and Field: Scholarship & Team Data by Division

Women’s Indoor Track & Field

In NCAA Division I, there are 334 teams with an average roster size of 41.9 athletes. Beginning in 2025–26, rosters will be capped at 45. The current scholarship limit is 18, which will rise to 45 under the equivalency model.

In NCAA Division II, there are 222 teams averaging 32.5 athletes per roster. There is no roster cap, and the scholarship limit remains at 12.6, awarded on an equivalency basis.

In NCAA Division III, there are 318 teams with an average roster size of 29.3 athletes. This division does not provide athletic scholarships and has no roster limits.

In the NAIA, there are 165 teams averaging 21 athletes per roster. The scholarship limit is 12, which remains unchanged in 2025–26, following the equivalency model.

In the NJCAA, there are 68 teams with an average roster size of 11 athletes. The scholarship limit is 20, which also remains unchanged for 2025–26, under the equivalency model.


Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

In NCAA Division I, there are 342 teams with an average roster size of 41.7 athletes. In 2025–26, rosters will be capped at 45. The current scholarship limit of 18 will increase to 45, with scholarships awarded on an equivalency basis.

In NCAA Division II, there are 266 teams averaging 31.7 athletes per roster. There is no roster cap, and the scholarship limit is 12.6, which remains the same in 2025–26 under the equivalency model.

In NCAA Division III, there are 351 teams with an average roster size of 28.1 athletes. This division does not offer athletic scholarships and has no roster limits.

In the NAIA, there are 196 teams averaging 21 athletes per roster. The scholarship limit is 12 and remains unchanged for 2025–26, awarded on an equivalency basis.

In the NJCAA, there are 111 teams with an average roster size of 11 athletes. The scholarship limit is 20, which also remains the same for 2025–26, under the equivalency system.
