In NCAA Division I, there are 236 teams with a total of 2,395 athletes, averaging 10.1 players per team. Beginning in 2025–26, rosters will be capped at 10. The current scholarship limit is 4.5, which will increase to 10, awarded on an equivalency basis.

In NCAA Division III, there are 302 teams with 3,434 athletes, averaging 11.4 players per team. This division does not provide athletic scholarships and has no roster limits.
In the NAIA, there are 87 teams with 1,007 athletes, averaging 10 players per team. The scholarship limit is 5, which stays the same in 2025–26, awarded on an equivalency basis.
