

Men’s Basketball: Scholarship & Team Data by Division
In NCAA Division I, there are 352 teams with a total of 5,607 athletes, averaging 15.9 players per team. The current scholarship limit is 13, which will increase to 15 beginning in 2025–26, along with a roster cap of 15. Scholarships are awarded on an equivalency basis.
In NCAA Division II, there are 306 teams with 5,648 athletes, averaging 18.5 players per team. The scholarship limit is 10 and will remain the same in 2025–26, with no roster restrictions. Scholarships follow the equivalency model.
In NCAA Division III, there are 414 teams with 8,020 athletes, averaging 19.4 players per team. This division does not offer athletic scholarships and has no roster limits.
In the NAIA Division I, there are 215 teams with 1,864 athletes, averaging 20 players per team. The scholarship limit is 8, which remains unchanged in 2025–26, awarded on an equivalency basis.
In the JUCO ranks, there are 430 teams with 6,352 athletes, averaging 15 players per team. The scholarship limit is 15, which also remains the same in 2025–26, under the equivalency system.


Women’s Basketball: Scholarship & Team Data by Division
In NCAA Division I, there are 350 teams with a total of 5,048 athletes, averaging 14.4 players per team. The current scholarship limit is 15, and starting in 2025–26 both the scholarship limit and the roster cap will remain at 15. Scholarships are awarded on an equivalency basis.
In NCAA Division II, there are 306 teams with 4,893 athletes, averaging 16 players per team. The scholarship limit is 10 and will remain the same in 2025–26, with no roster restrictions. Scholarships follow the equivalency model.
In NCAA Division III, there are 425 teams with 6,710 athletes, averaging 15.8 players per team. This division does not offer athletic scholarships and has no roster limits.
In the NAIA, there are 229 teams with 3,757 athletes, averaging 17 players per team. The scholarship limit is 11, which will remain the same in 2025–26, awarded on an equivalency basis.
